Insurance companies should be forced to cover birth control

July 12th, 2008Most insurance company prescription drug plans cover Viagra - but not necessarily cover birth control. The senate voted down an attempt to make prescription coverage of birth control mandatory so it would be treated like pretty much any other prescription drug. John McCain voted against it. The video below shows a reporter asking him to explain why.
Let's add this up - He's FOR Viagra - AGAINST birth control - AGAINST abortion rights. Whatever your belief on abortion, how can anyone not see the preposterousness of these 3 in combination? Whether you're pro- or anti-choice, seems both sides should be interested in preventing unwanted pregnancies to begin with. To cover drugs that help men get it up but not to prevent pregnancy is hypocrisy. As women, we can impact this: If you're a business owner, review your insurance to ensure you're with a carrier that covers birth control, and take your business elsewhere if it doesn't. If you're an employee, lodge a complaint with your HR department. And of course, who you vote for makes a difference.
